Some also offer bill paying services that allow you to schedule payments online. This is very convenient and may mean you will never have to write a check again.

When deciding on a bank, you will want to consider the following factors:

• Free Checking: Do they offer a free checking account that includes no monthly service fee and no minimum balance requirement? Do they have a direct deposit requirement?
   
• Fees and hidden costs. Do they charge you other hidden fees, such as fees for writing checks or using other banks ATMs? Is there unlimited check writing and free customer support?
   
• Interest Rates: Do they offer competitive rates on checking and savings accounts.
   
• Bill Paying Service: Do they offer a mechanism to schedule payments through their website? Do they charge a fee for this service?
   
• Web Site: Does the bank have a web site that allows you to view your statements, send e-mail to customer service, and perform other types of online transactions?
